Karl Ziemer, Graphic Resume from Karl on Vimeo.

This is a video of me doing a template of the front page for grocery store flyer. It is similar to the templates I work with already in my company; however this is just a quick overview of how I can make one of these in only a few minutes. Thank-you for your time and please feel free to review my other works.

Thomas Rodriguez (Layout, Web Design)

Commissioned by Thomas Rodriguez for his personal website. The client was more challenging than others, but quickly I was able to complete the site to his specification. This template helps to create the image that the client was looking for; one of success, confidence and modern style.

100 years of Beer (Layout, Web Design)

Commissioned by 100yearsofbeer.com. They wanted a beer website and that is what I delivered. Using the very essence of beer ( beer in a glass) I worked with their production people and combined design with function. This site to me really shows my ability to take another persons vision and make it a reality

KittyHawk Photography (Web Design, Graphic Design)

This template was designed for Kittyhawk Photography and is a dramatic increase of the original page in both professionalism and over all layout and design. This page features a colour scheme with a very simple yet elegant filler in the top right, the “Circles”. This design is simple and provides an interesting accent to the whole page while completing the “spaces” in the page. This design gives a modern feel to the page which is important for all serious web pages.Template can be viewed here New Kittyhawk Site

My New Buisness Card

Commissioned by me out of the need to have a formal, simple and still impressionable card. I would like to add then when it is printed off it is exactly 3mm wider than the standard 3.5 x 2 inch cards. One can only assume why, but without being too obvious it is a subtle hint that my card does not belong / fit in a card index, that my card stands out above the rest (without being inconvenient). Originally I was planning on an even larger card but my own ego was tamed by the simple physical logistics of someone wallet.

iVaughn (Graphic Design, Skateboards)

My friend and part owner of a skateboard company approached me about doing some graphics for his boards and for his website. This was only a few years after the release of the iPod and the iPod's aggressive commercial campaign. So I designed the “iVaughn” (a profile picture) along with a other company logos and skateboard designs. In most of my works, being a sociologist, I am constantly aware of emerging social trends and changes in peoples opinions and cultures. This allows for better placement of my advertisements and more social relevance to my work. Looking back on my works I can clearly see the trends and society that is reflective of the times they were produced. However looking at some of them now in today's terms is removing that social time context and some of the works fall short. My real goals are to create timeless pieces, works that transcend these limited time contexts, that is what I have been devoting my creative time to.

Jones House, UNB (T-Shirt, Graphic Designer)

This was commissioned by UNB Jones House. They wanted a new T-shirt design for the frosh. I designed several T-shirts and learned all about the production of T-shirts. I also had several meetings with the president and their regulatory staff to approve the designs. Here I had to present my ideas and explain the reasoning along with the message behind the T-shirt.

Cross (Physical Design)

Here, I step away from my most familiar mediums and work with more substance. I designed and built this charm under the wishes of an older gentleman. I put this photo of my creation as a symbol to myself that I am not just limited to designing paper objects and computer generated images.

Template (Graphic Design, Food over)

This template, I designed to show how quickly I can develop a working cover for a fake food company. This was not commissioned by anyone other then need to expand my portfolio and I feel the video (see above) highlights this nicely.

Snowboarder (Photography, Graphic Editing)

A professional snowboarder and personal friend commissioned me to take some photos of him snowboarding. He wanted this frame by frame picture of him and I was able to put it together using Photoshop. In most of my works I can successfully integrate the use of Photoshop and I am quite familiar with CS4 as well as previous versions. The computer like any medium can be used by me to transform my ideas into reality.

"The Kiss" (Photography, Photoshop)

“Stuttering” Is one of my personal favourites of mine, the pink spectrum is used, this photo sums the colour which I associate the most with love. The kiss is one of the simplest expressions of one's affection. Basic in its structure, how we hope the emotion of love to be. This is one of my most important photo edits because it was quite obvious to me how the picture should end up looking. Just like marble statues hide in blocks of marble, so does emotions hide in photographs,

"Where am I?" (Photography, Graphic Editing, Photoshop)

“Where am I” is a photo of me as a walk along Hirtles Beach. The dark focused parts symbolize my solid perception of reality- what I am thinking about, what I am most concerned about- i.e. the rocks and myself. The rest of the photo is the unfocused environment that we all see. This is a disconnect from body and environment.

"Math Fractal" (Photoshop Drawing)

This is a mathematical Fractal I developed from the most simple shape “ |_ ” then I took the limited structured possibilities of the grid objects and expanded it by adding the "liquid" unlimited possibilities it. I tend to use a lot of “Math” -in its most general use of the word- with most of my graphic designing and art works.

Brad Pitt (Pencil Sketch)

This is a pencil sketch of I did of someone famous “Brad Pitt” this is done with an simple HB2 pencil. I like to use this photo as an example of just my artistic abilities. This photo, I believe, took me only 2 hours to complete

"Me" (Computer Sketch, *no stylus)

This is the hardest photo I ever did. The original is huge and it was drawn completely using the paintbrush tool in Photoshop. Not only was the process hard to do, but it was interesting to draw it on such a large scale so the smallest strokes eventually added up, just like atoms to create a large object. Another aspect I found challenging is that is an unfinished portrait of myself, and anyone knows it is difficult to draw oneself. To see some of the process click here
